Ayurvedic and Unani Tibbia College (Govt of NCT of Delhi)

The Ayurvedic and Unani Tibbia College and Hospital in India stands as a historic and unique institution, where both Ayurvedic and Unani medical streams operate together. Founded in 1883 by Hazeek-ul-Mulk Hakim Abdul Majeed Khan Sahib as 'Madrasa e Tibia', it was officially inaugurated on 23 July 1889 by the then Deputy Commissioner of Delhi, Shri R. Clarke. The curriculum included the study of Modern Medicine and Science. Later, Masih-ul-Mulk Hakim Ajmal Khan Sahib re-established the madrasa in a new building at Karol Bagh. His Excellency Lord Hardinge, the Viceroy of India at the time, laid the foundation stone on 29 March 1916, and Mahatma Gandhi inaugurated the institute on 13 February 1921. Situated in central Delhi (Karol Bagh), the college and its 300-bed hospital feature three buildings—administrative, academic, and hospital wings—showcasing a blend of Mughal and British architecture. The 33.33-acre campus also includes a herbal garden, hostels for boys and girls, a mini stadium, and staff quarters. Initially, the college and its allied units were managed by a board established under the Tibia College Act, 1952. This act, now known as the Delhi Tibia College (Take Over) Act, 1998, brought the institution under the governance of the NCT of Delhi Government starting from May 1, 1998. The co-educational Ayurvedic and Unani Tibia College offers undergraduate courses such as BAMS (Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery) and BUMS (Bachelor of Unani Medicine and Surgery), both of which are five years in duration, including a one-year compulsory rotary internship. It also provides postgraduate courses in Kriya Sharir and Kayachikitsa (Ayurveda), and Munaf-ul-Aza (Unani Physiology), Ilm-us-Saidla (Unani Pharmaceutical Science), Amraz-e-Niswan wa Qabalat (Unani Gynecology and Obstetrics), and Moalijat (Unani Medicine). The college is accredited by the Central Council of Indian Medicine (CCIM) and affiliated with Delhi University.
